UNC's Austin, Little, Quinn out for good

The college football careers of North Carolina seniors Marvin Austin and Greg Little and junior Robert Quinn are over as the result of an NCAA investigation into the Tar Heels program.

UNC dismissed Austin has been dismissed from the team, and Little and Quinn have been ruled permanently ineligible because of untruthfulness, Chancellor Holden Thorp said this morning.

In a news release, UNC stated that the total value of benefits received was $4,952 for Little and $5,642 for Quinn, according to information submitted to the NCAA by the university.

Little was found to have accepted diamond earrings and travel accommodations to the Bahamas, Washington, D.C., and two trips to Miami, among other benefits. Quinn’s benefits were found to include two black diamond watches, a pair of matching earrings and travel to Miami.

Can the UNC BOT step in and clean this mess up? Davis, Baddour, and Thorp must be fired immediately or else UNC's reputation will be drug through the mud for another FULL YEAR! Who is in charge??? I've stopped alumni contributions until these CRIMINALS ARE FIRED!

"The DTH received a call from Chancellor Holden Thorp asking that the reporter go so a football player could leave his hearing unidentified.

The University shouldn’t be in the business of asking students to leave public buildings, even as they protect identities during the investigation."

Thorp has stepped over the line!

^nice try above poster. Anyone that is an alum of UNC wouldn't say something like that. You had us until the "I've stopped contributions" line.

and how does this make them criminals? I think we all forget these are actually college kids and make poor decisions sometimes, this didn't hurt UNC, this hurt themselves. Gimme a break.

More UNC players to dismissed this week...

I've seen two articles with contradictory facts. Which is right? Are they all dismissed from the team, or is Austin dismissed and Little and Quinn merely suspended for the rest of the season? Little and Quinn both have eligibility remaining if they are not dismissed and choose to return.

I thought Coach Davis said Marvin was working his way back on the team??? What is going on here???

Blake and Gary Wichard should have to go to jail. It's ashame they have ruined the education and possible careers for these players. I'm on the fence about what should happen to Davis until all the facts are in. Still he should have questioned the trips players took. It wasn't like the players tried to hide what they were doing. Austin tweeted about his activities, which were prominently displayed on Tarheeltimes.com page. I don't how he came claim he didn't know. It doesn't look good for Butch or Baddour. Someone should in the UNC athletic department should have been monitoring these players public announcement of their activities.

Now there's a third article with different facts. All with Ken Tysiac's byline. Can we try to get it right the first time, Observer?

BTW, I heard there will be more dismissals, unless there aren't any, in which case there won't be. That's from an inside source, and you can take it to the bank.

UNC has the most corrupt athletics department and administration of any NCAA school in the country.

UNC sucks hillbilly state and school.

Chanting that stuff doesn't make it true. State fans and the Taliban - any difference?

This is just the Carolina Way, now it is out in the open for all to see and admire. Just sit back and watch them all hang themselves. Let's nominate a new Flagship Institution until this one has the holes plugged permanently. The State of NC will just write checks to make all of these characters go away.

What is going on in Chapel Hill? The team is winning and looking good! That is what we expect and Coach Davis had NO idea of the poor judgement of his staff, star players and employees. Give him a break, he is busy running the whole program, he doesn
t have time to be responsible for 80-100 people, they don't pay him enough for that!

In Butch we trust...

Why does everyone act like all of this stuff is new, unique and unprecendented at UNC? Nothing to see here, move it along people.

I guess the facts changed again...

Is Coach Davis still telling recruits that his players only have to pay the money back to charity and all will be forgotten. Question: How can you tell whether Butch Davis is lying? Answer: His lips are moving.

None of those three will ever play again. Austin was permanently dismissed from the team by the school before the NCAA ever had a chance to rule on his eligibility. Little and Quinn were ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA, a decision that was not appealed by the school.
