UNC's games with Tennessee in jeopardy

North Carolina's football dates with Tennessee in 2011 and 2012 are in jeopardy, UNC senior associate athletic director Larry Gallo confirmed today.

Gallo said the schools are discussing moving or possibly canceling the games as the result of a request by Tennessee.

"We're just in discussions as of right now and don't have anything solidified as of this minute," Gallo said.

The Tar Heels' 2011 schedule current calls for home games against Tennessee, James Madison and Rutgers, with a road game at East Carolina. Tennessee was the only opponent set on the 2012 schedule.

Gallo said North Carolina officials wanted to play the games.

"We had every intention of doing so and were looking forward to it," he said.

Efforts to reach Tennesse athletic director Mike Hamilton were not immediately successful. Hamilton told ESPN.com that he wanted to break up a difficult portion of the Volunteers' 2011 schedule that included games with Cincinnati, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, LSU and Alabama.

SEC does not want to play the ACC heads up. The ACC is too strong from top to bottom unlike their conference.

UT doesn't want to play a team that's on probation. UNC will also be banned from TV after the investigation is over. Run away! UNC is toxic!

The most corrupt athletics department in the nation is now UNC Chapel Hill.

to the 3rd anonymous, you have to be laying the sarcasm on pretty thick right? If you believe that you've lost your mind. USC, UCLA,ASU and other west coast teams claim a bias in the national media, but you've got to be kidding yourself if you don't believe their programs are far dirtier. Boosters, my friend.

It is just great how a few players do something behind the coaches backs and all of the sudden UNC is the dirtiest program in college athletics. Jealousy is a very funny character...

As for Tenn. it does make sense that they would try to get out of this right now. Their program is on rocky ground with their 3rd coach in as many seasons, and it could really hurt them if there were to lose to UNC in terms of recruiting. It would easily allow Butch Davis to cross that state line and make some serious plays.

I honestly wish that teams just set their schedules on a year to year basis, but understand why that is problematic in today's climate.

State fans just need to have some sort of excuse for being so inferior to the rest of the ACC. So now everyone else is dirty. Last month it was the refs and the media were against them. There's not a more pathetic fanbase in the world.

What year did you graduate from Carolina?

I think all teams are going to reconsider playing UNC after the sanctions are made public next year.

Maybe UT can do what Carolina did last year after they decided to drop the game against Colorado - they can schedule an FCS team (Ga. Southern).
