Heels' freshman RB out for season

Giovani Bernard, who appeared to have a chance to contribute to North Carolina's rushing game as a freshman, is out for the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice Sunday afternoon.

Bernard, who's from Davie, Fla., was rated the No. 12 running back recruit in the nation by rivals.com after leading St. Thomas Aquinas to a 13-1 record as a senior. His injury will require season-ending surgery, and he will receive a medical redshirt for 2010, the school announced Monday.

North Carolina returns leading rushers Ryan Houston and Shaun Draughn from last season's team, but Bernard was thought to have a chance to break into the rotation at running back before the injury.

i hate to see kids get hurt and UNC has a stock pile of talent so they will be just fine but this young mans college career just got a lot tougher

We're approaching the one MONTH marker since the UNC football program scandal broke. Can the CO update the public on what is going on? This is NOT the Carolina way!

What do you mean??? The NCAA is still on campus investigating. They will finish when they finish. Regardless, UNC has been severely tarnished. The UNC I attended has been taken over by a crooked Athletics Department!

Tarnished? Give me a break, these kids went to a party (what collge kids don't?) Didn't know or care who was putting the party on (if you went to college and went to a party did you?) and numerous atheletes from oter schools were also in atendance. If they weren't atheletes there wouldn't be an investigation. I'm not a proonent of the "stipend" idea but some common sense from the NCAA might not be too much to ask.

Is that what you call accepting improper cash benefits as an amateur? Good grief. UNC fans are delusional. The NCAA is going to drop the hammer with 20+ revoked scholarships and a ban on bowls for at least two years. Blake will be fired and Davis will leave after this season. It must have been some party.

UNCheat -- the most corrupt football program in the nation. LOL!

20+ revoked scholarships? ban bowls? coaches fired? seriously? I'm not a fan of the heels but that's absurd -- how would you know that anyway? and why post something that you are completely pulling out of the air. go pack.

Tough break for the kid. Hopefully he will bounce back in the years ahead.

I'll take any bets that UNC doesn't get in any major trouble... kids posting rap lyrics on twitter doesn't mean they were actually driving Bentley's guys... you DOOKies made that up and it sounds like it might come out.

You guys are clowns, unc is cooperating fully with the ncaa, if they say there was a problem, it will come out. I suspect they won't though.

today's Yahoo article isn't very optimistic

CO has deleted 3 post trying to link the YAHOO article.

Must be UNC fans. There has been zero investigative journalism by CO and they continually monitor the boards to ensure nothing "bad" is insinuated against UNC.
