Charlotte's ACC football title game sold out

The ACC football championship game, scheduled for Dec. 3 at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium, is sold out, The Observer has learned. The league will make an official announcement of the sellout Wednesday afternoon.

It's the third time in the game's seven-year history -- and second consecutive time since it's been in Charlotte -- that the game has sold all its tickets.

The only seats remaining are the 10,000 each allotted to each participating school. Neither the league's Atlantic nor Coastal division championships have been clinched yet, although Clemson can win the Atlantic title with a victory against Wake Forest on Saturday. Coastal leader Virginia Tech plays an important game against Georgia Tech on Thursday.

Last season's championship game, played for the first time in Charlotte, was a sellout between Virginia Tech and Florida State. The game was played in Jacksonville and Tampa from 2005-09, and hadn't sold out since 2005's contest between Florida State and Virginia Tech.

"We continue to be encouraged by the enthusiasm that ACC fans have for Charlotte and (Bank of America Stadium)," said ACC commissioner John Swofford. -- David Scott

Hey ACC - Just go ahead and announce it already. Charlotte IS the home the ACC Championship game going forward. It's a no brainer. The location and large ACC fan/alumni base here is tough to beat.

Last year's game was a sellout and there were at least 15,000 empty seats at the game. Unless Clemson, VT, FSU or Ga Tech are in the game it will not sell out.

@Anon 10:28 - I was at that game last year and there was no way that it was that many empty seats there. A few thousand and that's about it. The only bad thing that could happen is if Wake, Duke, BC or Miami made it and that won't happen.

Why is the game played in Chapel Hill South considering UNC will never make it here?

Here's a crystal ball: VaTech will handily beat Clemson for the ACC Title. Yawn.

would that be the same team that Clemson pounded @ VT just a month ago?

From Mark P.

Anon 10:28: 15,000 empty seats? You obviously weren't there. It was pretty crowded and it was cold and drizzly. If Clemson and VaTech get there (which looks like it), it will be standing room only. And no-GA Tech would not help- did you see how many empty seats they had last night? They have bandwagon fans at Ga Tech.

I seem to remember many empty seats at last year's game, but would not expect any with a Clemson/Va Tech game. My experience is GA Tech draws/travels pretty well for a school with an enrollment of only about 15K, but they had their chance against VT.

Is anything more certain in this world than Clemson blowing it vs. VaTech in the Championship game????

well it was not a surprise at all, and I even thought that Charlotte's ACC football title game was going to be sold out sooner, but it was close to my prediction
