N.C. State bowl sales top 8,500

Eight days after the announcement that N.C. State would play in the Champs Sports Bowl, the school’s ticket office had sold more than 8,500 tickets for the game, senior associate athletic director Chris Kingston said Monday.

The game is Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla., where the Wolfpack (8-4) will meet No. 22-ranked West Virginia (9-3). Kingston said N.C. State currently is averaging 500 ticket sales a day.

“I think we’re doing really well,” Kingston said. “The sales have been strong.”

N.C. State’s ticket allotment for the game is 13,500.

Kingston said 37 percent of the tickets sold directly through the bowl or Ticketmaster have been sold to North Carolina addresses. He said that has given North Carolina the largest percentage of sales through those venues of any state.

Let me start by saying I really like NCSU's coach and think you have a great direction for the future. Now why won't the Charlotte Disturber comment on ECU selling 9,000 tickets to their bowl game against Maryland? Pure bias, thats why. Good luck to NCSU, they are not the problem, its this pathetic paper only playing favorites. ECU will easily sell their allotment in the coming days and may request more, isn't that worth ca couple of paragraphs? Keep ignoring them as they grow, it'll only bite you.

Go stand in line with the complaining APP State fans. You are insignificant. Perhaps the Raleigh newspaper would suit you better.

Honestly, until ECU can get into a BCS conference they are going to be relegated to the margins of college football. That is a shame as they have a loyal and dedicated fan base.

As an App State fan, I feel we get plenty of coverage in the Charlotte Observer and have no complaints there. A better comparison for ECU were if Chris Johnson were on the Panthers and John Fox refused to play him. Then you could make the comparison to us App State fans complaining about something.

in response to this:

I guess you failed to remember that insignificant ECU beat State this year (and I'm a State fan) and that ASU has won 3 national titles. I think the Wolfpack is around .500 in their illustrious football "history". Talk about insignificant.

Yes, ECU did beat State. However, that same ECU team was crushed by Rice. Seriously, Rice? 62 points? Also, State did beat the Conference USA Champions, Central Florida, at their house. Insignificant? Maybe not.

App. is insignificant because they essentially play junior varsity football playing teams like Samford, Norht Carolina Central, Chattanooga and this poor excuse for a schedule is the same year in and year out. It is just pitiful. And ECU has an okay program with a good following but until they are in a BCS conference they are insignificant as well. True they did beat NCSU but gave up 42, 45, 49, 49, 62 and 76 points in 6 losses this year to teams like Rice and SMU.

Did you really try to compare Chris Johnson to any APP Player? You must be kidding.

Armanti Edwards isn't in the same league at Chris Johnson.

Yes ECU gave up tons of points in bad loses this year. I guess that is what happens when you lose 34 players from the previous season. However in all of those bad games ECU still beat NC State so to me that makes State insignificant as well.

I go to Virgina Tech and have been to games at ECU and State. Let me tell you ECU fans blow State fans out of the water. State fans don't compare to ECU fans. ECU fans are rowdy from start to finish and the atmosphere ranks up there with Virgina Tech games. State fans just throw on crokies and think about what it means to be a real college atmosphere. State is a little above UNC football fans. VA Tech plays ECU every year and they always play us tough no matter what. Hell ECU had us down 24-21 in the 4th quarter at VA Tech this year until they had a few costly turnover that pretty much gave us the game. I would much rather play State than ECU anyday. ECU is a team that will give 110% effort winning or losing.

Anonymous said...

If I'm not mistaken NCSU had VT down 17-0 this year until they had a couple of things not go their way. How about that 110% effort ECU gave when they gave up 75 to Navy?

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry 76 to Navy.

Anonymous said...

That is true they did give up 76 to Navy.

But they still beat NC State so what is your point?

You lost to a team that gave up 76 points to Navy? Is that it? That says alot about State.

Anonymous said...

All State fans are doing for themselves by trying to argue bad loses for ECU is making your team look bad. You lost to ECU that had those bad loses and points given up to bad teams.

Of all of those games you scored the least amount of points against ECU so you have no argument.

As an APP grad so what that we don't play big time ball. We play who we play. At least we win in the insignificant league.

I would play State anytime. They aren't that great.

NC State lost to ECU so you are only making yourself look stupied by talking about thier other games.

NC State Blows period!

They are irrelevant in any sport.

APP State!!!!

If all you want to do is hang your hat on head to head match ups...go ahead. NCSU leads the series between the two schools 16-11.

I wish App. fans would go away. They tout three national championships. Great you are the best junior varsity team out there in the last decade. I'll give you that. I'm sure you can't wait to play Lenoir-Rhyne and the Sisters of the poor again next year.

Anonymous said...

And App plays VT next year, and not Lenoir Rhyne. It appears that the Hokies are the only ACC team that's willing to play this "JV" squad these days. The reason they played LR in 2008 was because the Heels wouldn't play them, (in spite of having common open dates) and scheduled McNeese instead. And just remember,a "JV" squad beat the ACC champs this year.

Anonymous said...

Okay, okay so you go out of conference once a year and play a varsity team. And App. will forever hang their hat on the one big win they had at Michigan, but look at every other time they play a varsity team in the last 5 years. Florida - loss, LSU - loss, NC State - loss, Kansas - loss...do you see a pattern here? How much money did you lose on that 48-10 thrashing against Florida this year?

Anonymous said...

Wow 16-11 lead in the series. That is very commanding lead over a team that is insignificant. Another stellar argument.

SEC said...

Who cares about any team in NC.

They are all JV.

Come play real football in the SEC.

Anonymous said...

Here we go. We can't have one day without some obnoxious SEC fan saying something.

Let's all say it together. Football should only be played by SEC teams.

Anonymous said...

I’m not an App fan, but come on. An NC State fan dissing someone else’s schedule and talking about quality football is like getting a lecture from the CEO of Yugo motors about making quality automobiles. At least App schedules one or more really good non-conference opponent each year, who is much better than they are. If only NC State would take a road trip to LSU, Florida, Kansas, Hawaii, Michigan or Auburn sometime - think State could have won any of those games? I don’t. And yeah, you threw App a bone one year, and you beat them, which you should have. Congratulations. State's non-conference schedule is (and has been) a joke. Play somebody decent on the road, (bigger than UCF) then you can look down your nose at someone else's schedule.

Point blank if App. and ECU were in the ACC App. would end up behind Duke every year and ECU would be just ahead of Duke.

Anonymous said...

That is still not saying much but that statement is true. And this is coming from an ECU fan.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about ACC Football or any team in NC. They all suck.

Anonymous said...

GO HEELS! BUMP ALL YALL!

torcs32 said...

You could put the best players at each position from all NC teams and form one team and they still couldn't beat the bottom SEC teams.

Worthless.

Statefan said...

Heels lose again to NC State!

Anonymous said...

Heel fans thought they could have basketball as a relief to their cheating football team. They suck also.

Anonymous said...

I pull for NCSU, ECU, and APP that way I can get 12 wins a season. I would incluse UNC, but that would mean only 13 wins for the season and 13 is a bad luck number.

The anonymous at the top of the list thinks the Charlotte paper and the Raleigh paper are not exactly the same except for some local news isn't aware that they are both McClatchy papers. Buy both papers and see for yourself.
