Mountaineers are No. 1 - again

Appalachian State just announced that it has been picked to make it four national championships in a row.

The Mountaineers released the Sports Network's preseason poll for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. The poll has ASU ranked No.1 again. Appalachian received a whopping 97 of 101 first-place votes.

The school is the preseason favorite for the third straight year No.2 is North Dakota State, which had one first-place vote, followed by Northern Iowa, Richmond and Massachusetts. James Madison, which had the other three first place votes, was picked sixth.

Four other Southern Conference teams are also nationally ranked — No. 13 Wofford, No. 15 Elon, No. 17 Georgia Southern and No. 23 The Citadel. Appalachian has been ranked in the top ten for each of its last 37 games.

App is the only D1A school in America that still plays down in the D1AA. They know you have to have 19k seats to become a member of D1A and the big boys but they prefer to keep winning titles playing in the high school league.

This is pathetic. Also lets not forget that Lenoir Rhyne won the original 1st NC college national football title in 1960 long before App. That was the only NC college who won a national title in football before Apps recents wins.

App needs to apply for D1A immediately and stop this cheating by staying in the lil boys football league. Move up and run with the big dawgs and lets see how high they are ranked in preseason.

Hey smart guy, no teams are allowed to jump up to 1A right now as there's a moratorium put in place by the NCAA.

Guess you're upset that ASU beat Lenoir Whyne in their scrimmage.

Go Mounaineers!

GO App State!

ASU is dominating because of great coaching and solid players - they don't have the scholarships for DIA so if you think they are pathetic for beating up on everyone, it's because you are a hater. They have just a fair a shot as all the other DIAA teams! Get a life!!

hey anonymous, you just displayed your ignorance with that statement, b/c it'll be a couple years before app can offically and financial move up, and i'm sure not ONE of Apps players would exchange their National Titles for a BoB's Used Tire Bowl win. And no other NC football team can even get invited to BoB's!

Hey anonymous. App just added 4,400 more seats for this year and Kidd Brewer will seat over 20,000 Kind of blows your theory Einstein. And by the way App had the first NCAA national football championship in NC. LR was NAIA when they won their's. Talk about high school football.
