Tar Heels still awaiting NCAA ruling

CHAPEL HILL -- It has been about 12 weeks since North Carolina officials appeared in Indianapolis in front of the NCAA Committee on Infractions. And still UNC is waiting to find out what penalties it will endure for the academic fraud and impermissible benefits scandals that rocked the Tar Heels football program.

Ohio State waited about 18 weeks to learn its fate from the NCAA. So it’s possible UNC could be waiting a while longer. Tar Heels football coach Larry Fedora was hoping to know the penalties by now, because the unknown has undoubtedly hurt UNC’s recruiting efforts.

With signing day approaching next week, though, it appears less and less likely that UNC will hear anything by then.

Why must it take so long to issue formal written compliments on how the UNC Administration has been the most cooperative and transparent in this whole unfortunate misunderstanding? UNC self-imposed a very punitive set of criteria including forfeiting wins, a $50K fine, and PROBATION for violating idiotic NCAA rules. What more can they do to correct a "wrong"? Hurry up and let's let by gones be forgiven and forgotten. Leave Butch Davis and his 216 Cell phone calls, he didn't make any recruiting or business calls on it, he had a UNC issued phone and never needed to use that either.

What does Coach Fedora expect, that the NCAA will just look the other way and hang a banner for University Cooperation and Good Intentions? Why do you think they gave you an unusually longer contract? It was to compensate for the Hammer of Thor that will come down on NCAA Judgement Day. Welcome to the Carolina Way.

They should've gotten lack of institutional control.

Butch has left a few schools raped and pillaged, yet Carolina fans still maintain that he is a great family man. Hilarious.

Hopefully Fedora can explain to the players what a syllabus is.

As a UNC fan I am proud that Holden Thorpe had the cajoles to save face for our great institution and do the right thing. Butch was about to make us a laughing stock amongst other places of higher education.

score one for academics for once.

This wait is very suspect. What do you all think?

Death penalty all the way.

I'll concede that they're the flagship PUBLIC school in the state. Duke, Wake, even Davidson considered better academic schools in most circles.

Hahaha more bad news for the Cheats.

The NCAA is incompetent. This is just another example of why this organization needs to be dissolved and another organization put in place with different people and stricter rules on decision making. I am not writing this as a fan necessarily but what is fair. Also remember that other schools may be in the same situation ond day and will be dealt with the same way. Just make a decision.
