Five South Carolina players -- including Rock Hill's Stephon Gilmore -- have been named to the all-SEC preseason football team by the league's coaches.
Gilmore, a sophomore defensive back, was named to the first team along with senior defensive end Cliff Matthews.
Gilmore started every game at cornerback as a freshman last season. A freshman All-American, Gilmore had an interception, broke up eight passes and had 56 tackles.
Matthews, a second-team all conference selection last season, had 7.0 sacks and 10.0 tackles for a loss. He's on the preseason watch lists for the Lott, Nagurski and Lombardi trophies this season.
Receiver Alshon Jeffery, defensive tackle Ladi Ajiboye and safety Chris Culliver were named to the second team. -- David Scott

South Carolina football is a joke.
So is the city of Charlotte
Oh I didnt know this was about football I thought it was something else.
anonymous 4:43 you're a joke
South Carolina football is a total joke, didnt even win a bowl game until the mid '90's. Thats frickin pathetic, end of story.
Go Gamecocks!!!!!
Anomyous 5:30...You wish. That was then, this is now. USC and SEC are the real deal. Better hope you're not on the schedule. By the way, did you have a good time in Omaha?
He's right...look it up
South Carolina only won 1 bowl game in the entire 20th Century, 1994, went 1-9 for the 1900's. LOL. Even Miss St and Dook won bowl games 50+ years before the cocks did. Most teams won bowl games in many different decades, not south carolina.
I cant find a major league university with a more pathetic football history than South Carolina, esp in the south. Their all time record is under .500 which blows, and only 1 conference championship ever. It doesnt get any more lame than south carolina football.
The $EC may be for real, but South Carolina is NOT!!!
..and I hope to god we are on the schedule. haha
USC has always been on the doormat along with Vandy...But they are playing in the SEC...Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama....probably not a lot of ACC folks who want anything to do with SEC on schedule...just ask Va Tech about their game with Alabama last year.
wow, this is about the players not the team. keep dwelling in the past kids...Go COCKS!
