N.C. State to retain 'Des' Kitchings as RB coach

N.C. State coach Dave Doeren has announced that Desmond "Des" Kitchings will remain on the Wolfpack staff as running backs coach.

Kitchings coached running backs and tight ends for the Wolfpack in 2012.

"I've gotten to know him in the last 10 days and am really impressed with his work ethic, his attitude and the way he works with the players," Doeren said in a statement. "The players have had nothing but great things to say about him as a teacher and a motivator.

"On the recruiting trail, I've been impressed with how he relates to the high school coaches. He has an impressive coaching background. The coaches he worked with at Air Force and Vanderbilt had great things to say about him. It's also good to have a South Carolina native on our staff to help us with recruiting in that area."

In his first season at NCSU, Kitchings coached both running backs and tight ends. Under his guidance, freshman Shadrach Thornton finished the regular season ranked fifth in the ACC in rushing despite not playing in the Pack's first three games.

Kitchings spent the 2011 season as the running game coordinator/running backs coach at the Air Force Academy. Air Force ranked third nationally in rushing that season, averaging 314.8 yard per game.

I can't believe Doeren traded Tenuta for Huxtable, though. Wow. No defense at State for a while.

@ Anon 6:23PM: Did you even watch the games State lost this season?Defense was State's weak point this year. When the defense showed up, they won. Let the guy coach a game before you get to bashing him.

I agree, the Gottfried hire triggered a similar response...only now those critics will vigorously deny having said anything negative; in fact many would claim they supported the hire 100%. Man things never change with Wolfpack Nation...only now the permanently pessimistic members are reaching a new low: lobbying against our new coach and his decisions BEFORE he's even coached the Red & White game. Oh I can already hear the stimpering and whining the rest of us in Wolfpack Nation will have to suffer through at Carter-Finley. And the comments will likely come from those same few members in "your" section who moaned and whined about Dana Bible. Come on State fans, Dave Doeren is the first chance we've had to be excited about football at the very least since Russell...but lets be honest true excitement dates back to good ol' number 17. I'm stoked about what Doeren is bringing, Football games might actually be fun to attend again!
