Clemson coach fires back at Steve Spurrier

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney agrees with South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier that 'South Carolina is not Clemson.'

The quote came from South Carolina play-by-play man Todd Ellis, who said at the end of South Carolina's 34-13 win over Clemson Saturday: “As coach Spurrier says, we might not be LSU or Alabama, but we ain’t Clemson, folks.”

The quote was then attributed to Spurrier on the Twitter account of South Carolina's football office (@GamecockFB).

Funny how Dabo responds in the exact way he criticizes Spurrier for striking. So silly.

Glad after about 7 minutes, the neurons started firing and Dabo gathered his thoughts after a ton of "you knows" and "uuuuuhhhhhs." Glad he could gather a little steam there and defend his program. The true fact is that he is reeling...I think he has the players, but the motivation and coaching just seems lacking. VT should blow them out tomorrow night. I actually like Clemson, but they are adrift, Sweeney is feeling the heat and this question really smacked him between the eyes. He does seem like a nice guy and I hope old Dabo proves me wrong. But the "Peter Principle" seems squarely etched in his forehead.

Spurrier never made the alleged comment. The "..we sure ain't Clemson either" was made by Todd Ellis, the Gamecock Radio Network announcer. Spurrier did make the "We ain't LSU and we ain't Alabama" comments.

The person who originally put it out there that Spurrier said that admitted this morning via the Gamecock Football Twitter account that they were incorrect on the quote.

Love how media spins things.

Regardless, Dabo should have dismissed the question all together. The only reason I think he didn't is that his team is in a tailspin the last few weeks, and there are people inside Clemson who wonder if he is the guy to lead that team, and he was trying to score points.

It's time for truth to prevail. Swinney has lambasted Coach Spurrier for remarks he didn't even make. What he needs to do now, if he is any kind of man at all, is to admit he fired at the wrong target and apologize.

The inferiority complex between Carolina and Clemson is HILARIOUS. Face it, ya'll: you're irrelevant, and always will be. Go convince the 100-person NCAA baseball TV audience you matter.

A little sour grapes there Michael. It mattered to the Clemson baseball team when the Gamecocks dispatched them from the 2010 series...it 2 games. Heck, there were at least 100 people at the sports bar where I watched the baseball game.

Oh well, you don't do YOUR program any good by belittling the team that beats you now on a regular basis. Just makes YOU look smaller.

For something that dabo says isn't a real rivalry, he sure is worked up. He should go have a good cry with Phillip Fulmer.

Come on ya'll are you all idiots ya'll got served for all your dumb come backs on Clemson. I mean lol about Vt so winning hello you dumb idiots did you watch that game and anyways Dabo just defended his team for every right he has and he has no right to have to apoligize to stupid spurrier and anyways.... Wow ya'll beat us 3 years in a row thats amazing right 3 years the age of my little sister 3. Sc and there stupid comments. Sc and the Qb who will most likely be going to prison sometime in his years. Now if you'll excuse me i have better things to chat about than ya'lls dumb comments on your "Amazing" coach.I feel bad for talkin' like this I mean my mamma would be ashamed but she always tells me to tell the truth and that is exactly what i did
And fyi:
We may not have beat ya'll this year and we may not next year but i have a whole lot of faith in this team and for that
Go Tigers

know anonymous who said Dabo=........... They ain't gonna graduate they to stupid to make it out and i feel bad for them instead of being able to get a job they'll be stuck homeless on the side walk because of the terrible education they were given

Dabo is a wanna be rick flare that has to go get his set out of a pocket book to be a man. He is right about if he only won 35 games after 5 seasons he would be gone. If clemson played in the SEC he they wouldn't even have a winning record.

I think that Clemson coach is behaving like a child or a teenager, I think that he has to behave appropriate to his age and not doing that show that is embarrassing
