ACC championship game returning to Charlotte

ACC commissioner John Swofford announced today that the league's football championship game will return to Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium in 2012 and '13.

Swofford made the announcement on the eve of this year's game between Clemson and Virginia Tech in Charlotte, which has been sold out for several weeks. The game was also in Charlotte in 2010, also a sellout.

"I think it's pretty obvious that both last year and this year are tremendous successes in terms of this game," said Swofford. "They're back-to-back sellouts, and that's certainly very, very important to us."

Swofford said the decision to return to Charlotte was unanimous within the league and that the game was not opened up for bidding to other cities. The game was held in Jacksonville, Fla., and Tampa, Fla., before coming to Charlotte. -- David Scott

Let's see...

Jacksonville residents haven't seen a Jaguars game on TV in forever because they're always blacked out. ACC title game is there 2 years, stadium half full.

Tampa residents haven't seen a Buccaneers game on TV in forever becuase they're always blacked out. ACC title game is there 2 years, stadium half full.

Charlotte residents always see the Panthers game on TV because all of the last 90 games have sold out. (Yeah, I know, stadium half full most of the time. But stick with me.) ACC title game here 2 years, both sellouts.

Charlotte gets the game for 2 more years, but not permanently.

Swofford and his UNC-CH posse sure are geniuses! No wonder the ACC is in such bad shape it is counting on baseball to keep it relevant.

Have the game in Miami once in awhile...it's an ACC town and it's much warmer than this Popsicle stand.

The great thing about the SEC is that the Championship (Football and Basketball) is always held in the most central and largest city within the SEC territory. Fans know that and prepare for the fun. Why in the world doesn't the ACC do this????? Bueller? Bueller?

Miami is an ACC town the way Olive Garden is Italian.

So if they had it in Miami, no one would come

If you don't like our little banana-flavored popsicle stand, leave.

I for one enjoy the how competitive and unpredictable ACC football is. I am not looking for another SEC. I think the ACC should make Charlotte the permanent home. Apparently they haven't reached that point yet. Florida is too far away from most of the ACC schools.
