Meineke Bowl set for New Year's Eve

Charlotte's Meineke Car Care Bowl will be played Dec. 31 at noon and will be televised by ESPN, capping a busy month of college football at Bank of America Stadium.

The game will be played a few weeks after the ACC championship game, which is set for Dec. 4 at the stadium.

The bowl will feature teams from the ACC and Big East. Last season, Pittsburgh defeated North Carolina 19-17, thanks to a Panthers field goal with 52 seconds left.

The bowl's attendance has averaged more than 60,000 in its eight years in Charlotte, including three sellouts. -- David Scott

That would be Pitt, who beat North Carolina

It took all of 2 seconds to look up the correct teams for the 2009 bowl. The writers for the Observer are awful.

60,000 my butt. I was at the game both years. There is NO WAY 60,000 people showed up for that. Yet again, the insecure delusional charlotte boosters tweaking numbers to make it look a heck of a lot more impressive that it really was.

If there were 35,000 at the game, I'll be surprised.

charlotte had better just hope and pray that either UNC or NC State qualify again for this low-tier bow

Christopher, if you went to watch any of the other bowl games beside the sorry heels, you would have seen a full stadium.

I have seen several other games including ECU, Va. Tech, and NC State.

while a couple of these games may have actually had 50,000, I will guarantee you that 60,000 is a complete exaggeration of attendance for these games. Hell the Carolina-WVU game only had people in about half of the lower bowl.

When did PITT change their 100 year old mascot from the Panther to the Mountaineers. That's some fine reporting!

Wow, we still have this all important bowl that will decide the national title, or have 2 top teams play in it, or be one the most watched bowl games of the 55 bowl games, or have teams in it with records like 10-1.

Who am I kidding?
The Who Cares (outside of the sponsor, city, and teams in it). With a trophy given that decided ??? Nothing

The 4A NC State title drew more interest and spectators.

Raycom Sports has done a horrible job running this Bowl Game. Get higher ranked teams to play in the game!

If they're getting 60,000 paid tickets worth of revenue, who cares if people choose not to use them?
