Three Pack upperclassmen gone

N.C. State upperclassmen Donald Bowens, DeAndre Morgan and Jeff Ruiz will graduate and won't return to the program in the fall, coach Tom O'Brien said Wednesday afternoon. All three would have been seniors in 2010.

Bowens led N.C. State in receiving yards in 2007 but missed 2008 and part of 2009 because of injuries. Morgan started 24 games in his career, including six last season.

Ruiz was N.C. State's starting punter last season, but O'Brien said redshirt freshman Chris Ward will start at punter in 2010.

O'Brien said N.C. State offensive coordinator Dana Bible, who's battling cancer, plans to return to full-time duty in May. Tests have shown that the cancer is in remission, but Bible is going through continued chemotherapy treatments.

Currently, Bible is having treatment in the morning and then comes into the office in the afternoon.

It's a shame how coaches push players out early to free up scholarships. More evidence that TOB is a true dirt bag.

So many stories on the great Tah Heel recruiting class and nothing on the Wolfpack until now.....and it is a story about players leaving, not signing. Great work, Ken.

Way to leave out the fact that these 3 players have GRADUATED, Ken. Nice work on that one; subtlely allowing the otherwise uninformed masses form their own opinions on why these players are no longer with the team. I'm sure that extra word was really difficult to add, must have been up against a word limit.

You wuffies are such hypocrites when the shoe is on the other foot.

Plus, we know State throws out diplomas like parking tickets, so it's no wonder they can use that whole "Graduated" excuse when they want kids to move on and make room for the ones they recruited over top of them.

@ 6:11pm, I could be delusional, but the first sentence says that the three players graduated. Am I missing something or is this the typical NC State persecution complex?

Jason,

I wouldn't be knocking NC State's degrees my guess is you couldn't get a degree there, and NC State isn't the one that has an African American Studies degree, the basketball team would be sunk if that wasn't offered.

Of all the coaches in the ACC I would not classify TOB as a dirtbag. But hey lets talk about how great Butch Davis is and the kinds of characters he recruits. I wish the players the best, they all red shirted and finished school, but they weren't producing.

Oh well I will get to sleep better knowing that the incoming Carolina class will never beat the Wolfpack

Josh, You are absolutely correct in what you said! And these players GRADUATED and that is why they are not returning! The article makes it sound as if they were kicked off the team or something. I don't really see the relevance of this story unless it's to infer that UNC players never graduate, they just fade away and State's players actually do graduate. It may be true that State doesn't always get the big name 4 and 5 star recruits every year as Carolina does, but for some reason, State always seems to kick carolina's rear ends with the leftover players they do get. I think that says alot about coaching my self.

The article wants you to question why they are leaving. It isnt because they are graduating. It is because they either dont want to return or their scholarships were taken from them.

Its funny how state fans make such a big deal out of beating UNC State, but to UNC fans, it just really isnt that big of a deal. We hinge our success on bowl games, not beating NC State.

When was the last time Carolina won a bowl game? TOB and Butch have the same winning percentage in bowl games

0, but TOB has the 3 victories over the holes.

These players GRADUATED, unlike the bevy of UNC players who fell victim to the Butch Waiver Wire! I'm glad UNC hinges their sucesses on bowl wins. 0-3 unter Butchie! Never has a coach done so little with so much recruting talent! As for TOB, he recruits a higher caliber athlete who gets in the news for "Toys For Tots" and "Wounded Warroir" community service instead of the infamous UNC "Police Blotter". In the long run, I would rather have a character coach instead of a hired gun who will do anything!

Presbyterian is playing 2 ACC school. Yikes! They must need the cash.

When you include players that finished their degrees after becoming professional players doesn't UNC still have the highest graduation rate by far in sports? Hmmmmm........

And as far as "so much talent" doesn't State currently have the remnants of a supposed top ten recruiting class on their roster. Quite interesting.....
