Tar Heels, Gamecocks to play in Charlotte in '15

North Carolina will play South Carolina to open the 2015 college football season at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, a source confirmed to the Observer on Tuesday.

The official announcement of the game -- which will be played Sept. 5, 2015 -- is expected to come at a news conference Thursday morning at the stadium.

The Tar Heels and Gamecocks last played in 2007, a 21-15 victory by South Carolina in Chapel Hill. North Carolina leads the series 34-17-4, but the teams have only played 11 times since South Carolina left the ACC in 1971. The Gamecocks hold a 6-5 advantage during that stretch. They will also open up the 2013 season with a game Aug. 29 at Williams-Brice Stadium. – David Scott

Happy to see this. A game between these two is a natural even though both camps argue the other Carolina doesn't matter. Great OOC game from my perspective for the gamecocks.

USC Rednecks vs the UNCheat Chardonnay's. Should be quite the scene.

Carolina vs. NCU

Gamecocks will roll in this one, just like they will in Columbia this fall.

So says the 'neck from NC State @ 4:04pm.

"Hello... Pot is that you??" -- Kettle

Wade said...

So it is the real Carolina (UNC) vs. the wanna-be Carolina (U of South Carolina because USC usually means Southern Cal).

Wade said...

P.S. Always remember that NOBODY outside of the Palmetto state says "Carolina" and means South Carolina. NOBODY. Sorry Gamecock fans, take your inferiority complex somewhere else.

False...go to Georgia or any school across the SEC and they do refer to USC as Carolina.

Only thing I care about being called, is a winner, which South Carolina was last time they played NC, will be the next time they play NC, and will continue to be in 2015.

"...they do refer to USC as Carolina."

Wow, there are two mistakes in that short statement.

I live in Georgia and I can tell you that Wade doesn't know what he is talking about.

Inferior, not the real carolina, yada, yada, yada -- your beat down(s) are coming at the hands of the Gamecocks. Keep talking down to us and propping yourselves up however you like. It will provide unneeded motivation for Spurrier and the Cocks kick you silly like the last time a Fedora-coached team came to town.

I wonder if Spurrier will back out of this one as well? He knows he would have gotten his arse handed to him last time this game was planned, so he ran off and reneged.

Chapel Hill fans talking trash regarding a football game...now that's comedy!

Carolina isn't UNC because of football. UNC is known as the Carolina because of basketball greatness and being a top academic institute. Neither UNC or Scar has really done much in football historically. That is why Carolina is UNC not because of anything on the football field because neither school is looked highly upon in the pigskin world.

I was in NAPA California and heard Carolina in reference to as SOUTH CAROLINA. it was football season.
as much as tarhole fans want to say Carolina is only in SC, Carolina during football is SC and during basketball season is NC.

Chapel Hill's football program cheats and still sucks. That's pathetic.

And South Carolina isn't that great in football??? Only 4 FBS teams have had 11-win seasons the past two years. Chapel Hill isn't one of them.

Unc-ch will lose by 30

NOrTh Carolina. It is in their name. Carolina will roll over the Tarholes.

I thought UNC was playing University of Southern California. This title is misleading. Nobody refers to University of South Carolina as USC. Their website is SC.edu, or South Carolina.

There is CAROLINA and then there is a South Carolina.

'Bout Time. This one is long overdue. Should be every year.

Um.... didn't SCar have some scholarships taken away by the NCAA? Pretty sure that happened. And the only way you'll hear ANYONE refer to SCar as "Carolina" in any other state is if the person saying it went to SCar. As the first public university, pretty sure we have dibs. We were Carolina when your school was still farmland.

Poor, poor Gamecock fans. In 49 states, Carolina means UNC. In 49 states USC means Univ of Southern California. SEC fans need not apply.

More subpar football at Bank of America Stadium.

Comparing UNC football to South Carolina football is like comparing South Carolina basketball to UNC basketball. There is no comparison. That being said, nobody in the ACC can compete with South Carolina as it stands.

Gonna be hard for unc to build the talent to beat South Carolina, what with their sanctions. They could do it if they cheat again.

get your facts straight idiot. the tar holes did the backing out. now probation u will get their butts handed to them and they'll back out of the next one.

Reid said...

Hey Cocks, James Taylor's "Carolina on my MInd" is about North Carolina not south cackalacky.

Well anonymous @ 4:12 dont bring State into this. We actually get meaningful degrees in Raleigh, and we don't have academic fraud there either. So just accept the fact that UNC will be humiliated in this game and move on.

Carolina vs. the University North of Carolina! Would love for it to become an on going OOC series. Baseball too! Basketball ... Not so much... lol

SyracWil said...

Well you can tell Wade that I live in Syracuse and it depends on what sport.. When people say Carolina during the fall most people up here thing of Carolina Gamecocks... In the winter they would say Carlina Basketball for UNC. So I guess thats becuase when it comes to football the last team anyone outside of NC would associate Carolina with is UNC since they are kind of a middle of the road team..

What in the world does politics have to do with this game???!!

I love this matchup. I'll be glad to go to this game as a (North) Carolina Fan!

UNCheaters vs USCocks, boring...

Hey timestwo, get your facts straight. Spurrier hasnt backed out of any of the return games we were promised for our trip to Chapel Hill in 2007. Keep believing your own bs coming from your info source--it doesnt matter really. I dont care where this game is scheduled but I do intend to be there every time the Gamecocks dismantle your tarheels. Cant wait, 113 days till your 0-1 and we move on to a real football team in georgia.

And here I thought it was going to be UNC Charlotte vs UNC Chapel Hill... what a disappointment.

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty disappointed. As an SEC fan, this game a colossal waste. I've travelled many places to enjoy football games--Chapel Hill is absolutely the worst place I have ever visited. I went with an open mind-disregarding the dispariging remarks I had so often heard expressed in regards to the fan base-looking forward to seeing the lauded historical, mesmerizing campus, but when I arrived I found a pretty campus, not a beautiful one, and a fan base that was truly a "whine-n-cheese" (pompus at best) crowd that rivaled nowhere I have visited short of GA or TN. The only caveat to this game is that it will be played in Charlotte--unfortunately we will have to endure this juvenile debate about the "real" Carolina. Welcome to the Jerry Springer show.

Personally I look forward to watching a good beatdown over the holes by the Gamecocks. The majority of their fans level of arrogance and hypocrisy is sickening. This year they will provide a good warmup before we have to play real football teams in the SEC.
